Supporting the Safina Lion Conservation Fund through Fahari, the leaping lion painting

Oct 2, 2025

One of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist is the ability to use my work to support causes that I truly care about, specifically wildlife conservation. One of which is the Safina Lion Conservation Fund, a charity dedicated to the protection and conservation of lions, specifically in East Africa.

To offer my support to this wonderful cause I have committed to donating a percentage of the profits made from the sale of my original lion painting Fahari - both the original painting and the high quality art lion prints. It’s my small way of helping to ensure that wild lions continue to roam free, just as they should.

Art evokes change

Fahari - meaning "magnificent" in Swahili - is a powerful depiction of a male lion, leaping towards the light. The painting holds special significance for me, as it captures the majesty and vulnerability of one of nature's most iconic creatures. Through this piece, I sought to evoke the strength and beauty of lions while also highlighting the threats they face due to poaching, habitat loss, and human-wildlife conflict. Lions, like many other animals, are at risk of extinction, and it’s crucial that we take steps to ensure their survival.

Mission: coexist.

When I first learned about the work of the Safina Lion Conservation Fund, I was immediately drawn to their mission, particularly their Coexist project. This initiative is dedicated to helping people and animals live together peacefully, which is crucial in regions where human-wildlife conflict often arises. One aspect of their work that I found especially inspiring is their Guardian Project, which trains local Masai warriors to become guardians of lions. These trained warriors protect the lions from harm and poaching while also promoting peaceful coexistence between the lions and local communities.

The Safina Lion Conservation Fund’s holistic approach to conservation - focusing not only on wildlife protection but also on community engagement and education  resonates deeply with me. It aligns with my own belief that conservation efforts must consider both the animals and the people who share the land with them.

The ripple effect

It has been an honour to collaborate with an organisation that is making such a tangible impact on the ground. The work they are doing to train guardians and promote coexistence is not only vital to the survival of lions but also helps to create long-lasting solutions that benefit both wildlife and local communities. I am proud to be able to support this work through my art, and I look forward to continuing this partnership.
