The Story:

Wolves have long symbolised freedom, instinct, and the untamed wild. In Grey Wolf, Charlotte focuses not on the predator, but on the voice. The upward tilt of the head, the open jaw, the tension in the throat - everything in this portrait centres around the act of calling out.

The dark teal background creates a mood of mystery and depth, letting the wolf’s fur glow softly in the light. Each brushstroke is layered with care, capturing not just realism but atmosphere.

To Charlotte, this painting is about connection: to each other, to something ancient, to something lost. Grey Wolf howls for the things we’ve forgotten - wildness, presence, belonging - and dares us to listen.

A note from Charlotte…
Charlotte painted the Grey Wolf in February 2021 in her Bristol studio. It was later exhibited at The Waterton Gallery, London, as part of her Into the Light solo show, and is now on display and avaialble to buy, at The Sheraton Grand Park Lane Hotel. Charlotte’s wildlife work aims to evoke emotion, foster connection, and spark a sense of stewardship through beauty and storytelling.
