The Grandfather, Walking With Him One Last Time

This high-quality Elephant Art Print is of the original The Grandfather oil painting by Charlotte Sutton.

Summary:
The Grandfather is a monumental fine art print portraying an African elephant with quiet strength and deep presence. Standing larger than life, the figure emerges from shadow into light, each crease and tusk painted with reverence. Originally created in oils by London-based artist Charlotte Sutton, this Limited Edition museum-grade giclée print brings profound stillness, memory, and majesty into your space.

The Story:
Painted in the weeks following the passing of her grandfather, The Grandfather is one of Charlotte’s most personal and emotive works. The last time she had seen an African elephant in the wild was with him, in South Africa—a shared memory etched into her spirit. This painting became both tribute and therapy: a way to honour a great man through the image of a great creature.
Symbolising wisdom, family, and legacy, the elephant steps forward from the dark, surrounded by swirling dust and mystery. Its monumental scale—larger than the artist herself—mirrors the scale of emotion and meaning behind the piece. The Grandfather is a portrait not just of an animal, but of memory, ancestry, and enduring love.

A note from Charlotte…
Charlotte painted the original The Grandfather in February 2021 in her Bristol studio. It was later exhibited at The Waterton Gallery, London, as part of her Into the Light solo show, and is now sold. Charlotte’s wildlife work aims to evoke emotion, foster connection, and spark a sense of stewardship through beauty and storytelling.
