The Story:
Charlotte was inspired by the chaffinch’s joyful presence in parks, hedgerows, and woodlands across the UK. A familiar sight on garden feeders and a favourite among birdwatchers, the chaffinch is celebrated for its striking plumage and beautiful cascading song. In Chaffinch, Charlotte sought to capture both the bird’s gentle form and vibrant energy.
With precise watercolour layering and a delicate touch, this painting invites the viewer to look closely—at the fine barring on its wings, the gleam in its eye, and the balance of colour that makes the chaffinch so distinct.

A note from Charlotte…
Charlotte painted Chaffinch in July 2023 in her Wandsworth Town studio. It was later exhibited at Green & Stone, London, as part of her Coexist solo show. Charlotte’s wildlife work aims to evoke emotion, foster connection, and spark a sense of stewardship through beauty and storytelling.
